SkyWise (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) has had its Air Services Licence (ASL) cancelled by local regulators after it failed to launch scheduled services within a year of its first issuance.

eTNW News reports that the start-up had applied to the South African Air Services Licensing Council (ASLC) for an extension only for it to be declined.

The airline, which had planned to offer multiple-daily flights between Johannesburg O.R. Tambo and Cape Town International, has yet to secure its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA).

In a bid to protect its interests, SkyWise joined Comair (South Africa) (CAW, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) in successfully petitioning the South African high court to revoke the AOC awarded to rival start-up, FlySafair (FA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo), ahead of the latter's planned October 2013 launch.

SkyWise is the brainchild of several ex-1time airline (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) senior staff.
