SriLankan Airlines (UL, Colombo International) will switch one of its seven weekly flights from Colombo International to Dubai International, to Sharjah for the duration of runway upgrades there. Airline Route reports that the exceptional service will operate on Wednesdays onboard an A320-200.

The runway upgrade project at Dubai International is set to launch on May 1, 2014 and will last for 80 days during which the tracks will be closed alternatively – the southern runway from May 1 to May 31 and the northern runway from May 31 to July 20, 2014.

The project involves the resurfacing of the entire 4,000-metre long northern runway, which is nearing the end of its design life, as well as the upgrading of runway lighting and the construction of additional taxiways and rapid exits on the southern runway.
