Azul Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras (AD, São Paulo Viracopos) will switch its Natal operations from Natal Aluizio Alves airport to the newly commissioned Natal Aluizio Alves airport on June 1. ch-aviation records show the LCC currently serves Belo Horizonte Tancredo Neves, São Paulo Viracopos, Fernando de Noronha, Fortaleza International, Maceió Zumbi dos Palmares, Recife, Rio de Janeiro International, Salvador International, and São Paulo Guarulhos from the coastal city.

Run by the Inframérica Consortium, a 50/50 joint-venture between Brazilian Engineering Group, Engevix, and the Argentina's Corporación América, the airfield is expected to have the highest aircraft traffic in the Northeast of the country.

Avianca Brasil (São Paulo Congonhas), GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (G3, São Paulo Congonhas) and TAM Linhas Aéreas (São Paulo Congonhas) are the other domestic carriers currently serving Natal which also gets international service by Air Italy (2005) (Milan Malpensa) and TAP Portugal (Lisbon). The old airport is expected to close after all flights have moved to the new Aluizio Alves International airport.
