Eastar Jet (ZE, Seoul Gimpo) and Asiana Airlines (OZ, Seoul Incheon) have been sanctioned by the South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) for violations of the country's air safety code.

Following an investigation into both airlines, the MLIT said it had ordered Easter Jet to suspend the operation of one of its eight B737 Next Gens for five days after the LCC was found guilty of flying an aircraft which had a problem with one of its doors in January.

In the same ruling, the MLIT fined Asiana KWR20million (USD19'700) and ordered it to suspend its Seoul Incheon to Saipan operations for seven days after it was found guilty of failing to obey established procedures for an engine oil-filter warning message that appeared after takeoff. The ministry says that instead of diverting to a nearby airport, the aircraft proceeded with its normal flight plan, in contravention of safety norms. The MLIT investigation also found Asiana guilty of filing a false report to the ministry claiming the warning message had disappeared soon after take-off.

The license of the pilots involved was also suspended for one month.

Both airlines have until June 26 to appeal their respective sanctions.
