Conviasa (V0, Caracas Simón Bolivar) and LAN Airlines (Santiago de Chile) have held preliminary talks regarding enhanced regional cooperation. Following a meeting in Caracas last week, the director general of Venezuela's civil aviation authority (Instituto Nacional de Aeronáutica Civil - INAC), Pedro González Díaz, said topics discussed included the possibility of opening up Fifth Freedom routes from Venezuela to destinations in the Americas and Europe.

He did not disclose which routes had been considered.

The topic of improved regional air-freight haulage cooperation was also discussed.

"And finally, we begin talks with LAN Airlines to expand operations regarding air freight at a regional level," tweeted Venezuela's Minister for Water and Air Transport, Hebert García Plaza, who also attended the talks.
