Kan Air (KND, Chiang Mai) will start flights to Ko Pha Ngan Airport in the country's south-east before year-end airline president, Somphong Sooksanguan, has told the Bangkok Times. The Thai carrier, which is funding the construction works, intends to connect the island paradise with Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi, using a fleet of ATR 72s, he said. Kan Air had previously also mentioned Dash 8-400s as a potential aircraft type.

In addition, the new turboprops will also allow Kan Air to develop Bangkok into its second hub with flights to Surin and Mae Sot.

Kan Air's parent, Kannithi Aviation, will enter the local and regional LCC market this September with the launch of Thai VietJetAir (VZ, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi), a joint venture with Vietnamese LCC, VietJetAir (VJ, Hanoi Noi Bai International).
