Uzbekistan Airways (HY, Tashkent International) owner, the Uzbek government, has approved a USD246.6million funding mechanism required to purchase two B787-8s from Boeing (BOE, Washington National) and one spare engine. According to the Uzbek press, the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan (FRDU) will extend a loan worth USD123.3million backing the acquisition with 40% of the remaining capital to come from foreign banks and the carrier's own coffers.

The first of the B787s and the spare engine are due for delivery in June 2016 with the second due in August that year.

Currently, Uzbekistan Airways' widebody fleet constitutes nine B767-300(ER)s used on flights throughout the CIS, India, Israel, Continental Europe, the United Kingdom, the Far East and the United States.
