Swiss (LX, Zurich) and fellow Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) subsidiary, Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna), have amended their respective Ukrainian operations as international carriers strive to adapt their operations to the country's changing economic and socio-political landscape.

For its part, Swiss has announced it will terminate its 5x-weekly Zurich to Kyiv Boryspil route with effect from October 1.

"The service is being terminated for economic reasons, as business on the route has failed to develop in line with expectations," Swiss said in a statement.

The route, introduced during the airline's 2013/14 winter schedule, is operated with an A320-200 as well as with Helvetic Airways (2L, Zurich) Fokker 100s.

For its part, Austrian has announced it has resumed flights to the eastern Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Dnipro. The decision to resume the routes, suspended after the downing of Malaysia Airlines (MH, Kuala Lumpur International) flight MH17 in July, came amid "close coordination with the Ukrainian authorities and on the basis of regular reviews of the local security situation", the airline said in a statement.
