Apsara International Air (Siem Reap) has secured its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from Cambodia's State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) with operations set to commence before the end of the month. Airline CEO Zhang Xiaopeng told China's Xinhua that the airline will focus on leveraging the country's growing tourism potential.

"Apsara International Air is to commence operation of scheduled flights between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap by the end of this month, and an international route between Cambodia and China by the end of December 2014, utilizing an Airbus A320 aircraft," he said.

Once operations have stabilized, the Chinese-backed carrier intends to open up additional routes to Japan, South Korea and Russia, Zhang added.

The Xian Aircraft Company-backed start-up, Cambodia Bayon Airlines (Phnom Penh), is also scheduled to make its début on the domestic market later this year.
