Iberia (IB, Madrid Barajas) will source its eight new A330-200s from converted options its parent, the International Airlines Group (IAG), has said. Last month, IAG announced plans to equip the Spanish carrier with the eight twinjets but deferred a decision on whether to source the aircraft from the leasing market or from an existing 2011 order with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac).

"IAG has decided to convert the eight A330-200 options into firm orders. These aircraft will be delivered between 2015 and 2018," the Group said in a statement.

In addition, IAG says it has taken out options for a further ten A330s to provide fleet flexibility for the Group.

The A330s, alongside eight A350-900s, will be used to replace some of Iberia's ageing fleet of six A340-300s and seventeen A340-600s.
