Jet2 (United Kingdom) (LS, Leeds/Bradford) has warned that it may be forced to terminate its Blackpool operations after airport management warned that the airfield could close later this month should a suitable investor fail to be found.

"We regretfully confirm that if no agreement can be reached before October 7, 2014 which ensures the viability of its operations, then it is likely that the airport operations will close. In this event, we expect that the last commercial flights will take place on Wednesday, October 15, 2014," the airfield's operator, Blackpool Airport Ltd, said in a statement.

Following years of financial losses, management, in late August, announced plans to find a buyer for the airport operating company.

Aside from Jet2, Blackpool is served by Stobart Air (Dublin International) (operating on behalf of Aer Lingus (EI, Dublin International)) and VAN AIR Europe (V9, Brno) (operating on behalf of Citywing (Isle of Man)). Connections are offered to nearby Ireland and the Isle of Man as well as to Spain, Turkey, and Portugal. The airport is also the base of an offshore helicopter operation, flying crews to and from the Irish Sea oil fields.
