Alaska Airlines (AS, Seattle Tacoma International) has signed a firm order agreement with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for ten additional B737-900(ER)s bringing the Alaskan operator's total Boeing order book to 74. The order is valued at USD990million at current list prices.

Alaska Airlines plans to use its incoming B737 NextGen fleet to replace its outgoing fleet of twenty-seven B737-400s (twenty-one B737-400s, five B737-400(M)s, and one B737-400(F)) scheduled to be phased out by late 2017.

Currently, the airline also operates thirty-four B737-900s, sixty-one B737-800s, and fourteen B737-700s.
