SomAir (Mogadishu) is a Somali start-up owned and managed by local businessmen. Unveiled earlier this year, the airline intends to offer domestic and international flights.
Given the vast swathes of Somalia that are currently still under the control fo the Al-Shabaab terrorist organization, the only viable means of travel between towns and cities is via air.
According to the Somali Current, SomAir has started its operation with a DC-9-30, 5Y-CDP (cn 48145) wet-leased from Kenya's Pan African Airways (Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) as of September 4, 2014.
