Aegean Airlines (A3, Athens) Vice President Eftichios Vassilakis says his airline will, during 2015, issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) to both Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) and Boeing (BOE, Washington National) as part of its fleet renewal programme. Among the first aircraft to be replaced will be its 2007-vintage aircraft which, at present, form the basis of the carrier's fleet.

Overall, Vassilakis said, Aegean plans to double the size of its fleet from the current 36, to 70 by 2023, with annual passenger through-put to rise from 9.8million today to 14.5million.

However, in March this year, CEO Dimitrios Gerogiannis said Aegean would hold off on an existing order for five A320-200s until the Greek economy has stabilized.
