Air Serbia (JU, Belgrade) is set to resume scheduled services between Belgrade and Zagreb Franjo Tuđman, the capital of Croatia, the first such flights since the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1991. Last week, the Serbian carrier said it will offer double daily ATR72 flights between the two capitals effective December 12.

"The new flights mark the resumption of services between these two cities, following the last flight 23 years ago. The route enjoys a long history with the first flight operated by JAT's predecessor, Aeroput, taking place in February 1928. JAT Yugoslav Airlines (Belgrade) re-introduced the route in April 1947 and serviced it until August 1991," Air Serbia said.

Air Serbia currently already serves the Croatian Adriatic cities of Dubrovnik and Split.

Serbia and Croatia severed economic and diplomatic relations when a 4-year war broke out in 1991. Though attempts at improving relations have been made since the war's end in 1995, ties between the two countries have remained frosty at best.
