Spirit Airlines (NK, Fort Lauderdale International) has announced plans to commence international operations out of Houston Intercontinental pending regulatory approval. The US budget carrier said that beginning in Spring 2015, it hopes to offer scheduled flights to seven destinations in Latin America among them Cancún, San José Cabo, and Toluca in Mexico all effective May 7, 2015.
Thereafter, flights to San José Juan Santamaría in Costa Rica; Managua, Nicaragua; San Salvador International, El Salvador; and San Pedro Sula, Honduras, are scheduled to launch on May 28.
Spirit currently serves 12 US cities from Houston with plans to add three more next year.
