Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) will lease up to seven A330-200s for its planned new longhaul budget operation expected to take to the skies at the end of 2015. It has now emerged that the flights will be operated under the revamped Eurowings brand.

"In addition to its European network, the ‘New Eurowings’ will also begin to add long-haul services to its low-fare product range from the end of 2015 onwards, in collaboration with German-Turkish airline SunExpress," it said.

Lufthansa's Supervisory Board says it has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Sun Express, its joint-venture with Turkish Airlines, under which the flights would be flown under the SunExpress Deutschland's Air Operator Certificate (AOC) using SunExpress Deutschland cockpit and cabin crews.

From its Cologne/Bonn home base, the operation will initially employ a fleet of three Airbus A330-200 configured with 310 seats, growing to seven over the next few years.

Initial destinations will include Florida, Southern Africa, and the Indian Ocean.
