Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) is planning to base four B737-800s out of Milan Malpensa this summer Roger Zanesco, the president of Aeroporti Lombardi, has disclosed. In an interview with the local Varese press, Zanesco said the aircraft, which would be used to dramatically expand the budget carrier's presence at the northern Italian metropolis, could arrive as early as June.

Though Ryanair's switch from Milan Bergamo To Milan Malpensa for 21 days last year was ostensibly due to the former's temporary closure, the paper quotes airport sources as saying the LCC used the transfer to test Malpensa's waters before a full scale, permanent switch.

The budget carrier has attempted to enter Malpensa in the past though its proposals to use the airport's Terminal 1 were judged to be too low by airport operator SEA Aeroporti di Milano.
