Cimber (Sønderborg) could be renamed to Red 1 (Copenhagen Kastrup) shortly. According to SAS Scandinavian Airlines (SK, Copenhagen Kastrup), no final decision has been made yet as to whether the company will trade as Red 1 or continue as Cimber in the future.

The name Red 1 first was made public some days before the acquisition of Cimber was announced, when an existing SAS Group company changed its name to Red 1 A/S. Red 1 is the project title for the takeover of the Danish regional carrier and Red 1 A/S as a company is actually formally acquiring Cimber A/S.

Recently, Cimber A/S and Red 1 A/S filed plans to merge while SAS registered the domain red1.dk, leading to speculation of a possible name change of the airline that will operate SAS' fleet of CRJ900s going forward.

The name Red 1 is similar to Blue 1 (Helsinki Vantaa), a Finnish SAS subsidiary operating B717-200 aircraft on behalf of SAS Scandinavian Airlines.
