Peach Aviation (MM, Osaka Kansai) has announced plans to develop Sendai into a base by the summer of 2017. The ANA - All Nippon Airways (NH, Tokyo Haneda) subsidiary said in a statement that it is planning to utilize an undisclosed number of A320-200 jets to develop new routes to multiple domestic and international destinations.

“Since we started service in 2012, we have been determined to build a hub at Sendai Airport,” Shinichi Inoue, Peach Representative Director & CEO, said. “It is our great pleasure to have an opportunity to develop our operations further at our fourth hub at Sendai, following the three existing sites at Osaka Kansai, Okinawa Naha, and Tokyo Narita."

Inoue added that the new hub at Sendai will allow the Tohoku region to capitalize on the strong international demand for flights to Japan.

Aside from Peach, which currently serves Osaka Kansai, Sendai is also served by two other LCCs - Skymark Airlines (BC, Tokyo Haneda) and Air Do (HD, Sapporo Chitose).
