Jetstar Airways (JQ, Melbourne Tullamarine) will commence a 3x weekly Townsville-Denpasar, Indonesia service beginning later on September 2 of this year.

Australian Aviation news reports the route, operated on-board A320-200 machinery, marks the north-eastern Australian port city's first international flights after the federal government agreed to support passenger processing at its airport.

Though Airnorth (Australia) (TL, Darwin), Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith), Jetstar, Rex - Regional Express (ZL, Wagga Wagga), and Virgin Australia International (VA, Brisbane International) currently connect Townsville to other Australian towns and cities, the city did at one point see international flights - to Denpasar - through the now defunct Air Australia (Brisbane International).
