Airlink (South Africa) (4Z, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) will commence scheduled operations out of Pretoria Wonderboom Wonderboom airport this August the mayor of Tshwane municipality Kgosientso Ramokgopa has announced.

Operated in conjunction with national carrier South African Airways (SA, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo), the flights will link South Africa's administrative capital with its legislative capital, Cape Town International.

"In this regard, we are proud to welcome South African Airways and Airlink, who have entered into a commercial joint venture for the purpose of providing new scheduled air services at the airport," Ramokgpa said in his State of the Capital address. "These services will commence during August 2015 and will operate initially between Wonderboom and Cape Town, with three flights scheduled per day."

Interlink Airlines (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) was the airport's last scheduled operator offering flights to Cape Town and Durban Virginia until its collapse in 2010.

Prior to the FIFA Soccer World Cup of 2010 which was held in South Africa, Tshwane City Council, which owns the airport, upgraded Wonderboom's infrastructure spending over ZAR165.5 million (USD14.1 million) in expanding the apron while installing a luggage carousel.
