Atlantic Airways (RC, Faroe Islands Vágar) as opted to acquire two new AW139s from Italian manufacturer AgustaWestland (Milan Malpensa) to replace a pair of twenty year-old Bell Helicopter 412s. The helicopters are used on scheduled services within the Faroe Islands and for emergency Search and Rescue (SAR) and MedEvac flights.

“This is a significant improvement of our helicopter service as the old helicopters are downgraded as new and stricter regulations are introduced in the field,” Jørgen Holme, Chief Executive Officer of Atlantic Airways, said. “With AW 139 helicopters we are acquiring a modern fleet ready for the future, and which meets all relevant standards.”

The Faroese carrier has experience with the AW139s having leased them several times in the past to service oil industry contracts.
