Austrian Airlines (OS, Vienna) says its supervisory board has formally approved the acquisition of seventeen E195s from fellow Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) subsidiary, Lufthansa CityLine (CL, Munich), announced earlier this year in March.

“A decision was made today on one of the largest investment projects in the history of Austrian aviation. 900 jobs are directly connected to this investment program,” Andreas Otto, CCO of Austrian Airlines, said.

Austrian plans to use the Embraer (EMB, São José dos Campos Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf) twin jets to replace its outgoing fleet of Fokker Aircraft (Woensdrecht) - fifteen Fokker 100s and six Fokker 70s - with the transition to be complete by the end of 2017.

The first of the EMB-195s will arrive this August and will be modified to Austrian's standards before being used for training purposes initially. The type's first commercial flight is slated for January 2016.
