EVA Air (BR, Taipei Taoyuan) signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for the purchase of five B777-Fs at the Paris Air Show 2015 at Paris Le Bourget. The commitment, valued at more than USD1.5 billion at list prices, represents the first B777 Freighters to join the Taiwanese operator's cargo fleet which currently consists of eight ageing B747-400(F)s.

The purchase is the first phase of a fleet renewal programme, outlined by Chairman Kuo Wei Chang earlier in the year, which should see orders for "at least" ten B787-10s and an undisclosed number of B777Xs being placed during the second and third phases respectively.

In the longrun, EVA plans to grow its operational widebody fleet to more than sixty aircraft by the end of 2025.
