Luftline Georgia (Tbilisi) has commenced operations four years on after securing its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency. Russia's ATO news reports that the start-up's maiden commercial flight was on July 14 operating charter flights to Iceland on behalf of Azerbaijani football club, Inter Baku PIK.

Managing Director Vasily Dzhambazishvili said in an interview that for now, his airline would remain a charter operation pending the delivery of additional aircraft. Under Georgian law, only operators with two or more aeroplanes may operate scheduled flights.

"With added aircraft, we would consider flights to Europe, the Middle East, South and South-East Asia; more specifically Germany, Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, India, Pakistan and others," he said.

While Luftline currently leases a single B737-400, 4L-GSN (msn 24643), it plans to add an A321-200 followed by a pair of A320-200s in the near future.
