Thailand's transport minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith has told the Bangkok Post that Air France-KLM would be interested in setting up a maintenance, repair and overhaul joint venture with Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi). According to the minister, Utapao is being considered as a possible location for a new maintenance base.

According to Thai president Charamporn Jotikasthira, the airline the MRO subsidiary of Air France-KLM, AFI KLM E&M, are still discussing the types of services to be offered by the MRO joint venture as well as details on the investments by both parties. Final decisions are expected in June of the 2016 following a joint study.
