FedEx Express (FX, Memphis International) has commenced construction of its planned new logistics hub at Milan Malpensa in northern Italy. The project is part of a EUR100 million (USD113.5 million) investment airport operator SEA is making in expanding Malpensa Cargo City.

FedEx said in a communique that the new EUR15 million (USD116.5 million) facility will feature state-of-the-art equipment which will triple FedEx's current handling capacity at the airport.

The 35,000sqm+ facility will feature a 15,000sqm covered warehouse, more than 1,000 sqm of office space, and 20,000 sqm for vehicle manoeuvring and parking.

Once complete, Malpensa will become FedEx's third largest hub in Europe, after Paris CDG and Cologne/Bonn, handling 20,000 daily shipments, 44 weekly flights, and 480 connections by land, on a weekly basis.
