Montenegro Airlines (Podgorica) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) concerning their proposed strategic cooperation agreement announced earlier this year.

Under the terms of the MOU, Etihad will assist the Montenegrin carrier in streamlining both its corporate hierarchy and its fleet operations thus producing a more efficiently run, profitable organization. The Emiratis will also assist in developing synergies between its equity partners and Montenegro Airlines.

"The aim is not only to increase the number of destinations available to Montenegro Airlines, but also to increase the number of passengers being transported to Montenegro via our national air carrier, during the summer and the winter seasons," the airline said in a statement. "This will significantly accelerate the development of tourism in Montenegro."

It is uncertain what Etihad what gain from the partnership should a final agreement eventually be signed.
