Skygreece Airlines (Athens) has filed for bankruptcy approximately two months after it filed for protection from creditors. Ernst & Young, the airline's Canadian court appointed trustee, confirmed the move to CBC News Canada.

Skygreece blamed Greece's ongoing economic crisis for what it termed "an immediate and dramatic reduction in ticket sales" for its suspension of operations in August this year. To make matters worse, the carrier's sole aircraft, a B767-300(ER), had also developed technical issues at around the same time.

Prior to its suspension of operations, Skygreece had operated transatlantic flights between Canada and Greece, Croatia and Hungary.
