SkyWise (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) has been subpoenaed by the Air Services Licensing Council (ASLC) of South Africa for a hearing on December 9 to explain a series of delays and cancellations that occurred last month and have continued until now.

A statement says the ASLC will hold the budget carrier to account for its alleged "non-compliance with the conditions of the Air Service Licence." The body has the power to suspend and/or revoke an operator's licence should it be found non-compliant with its terms and conditions.

The Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS) and the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) temporarily grounded SkyWise last month after the airline failed to settle outstanding landing and takeoff fees, as well as charges relating to aircraft parking, dating back to August of this year.

SkyWise operates a single B737-500 on its sole route - Johannesburg O.R. Tambo-Cape Town International. A B737-300 leased from Star Air (South Africa) (BRH, Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) was returned to the lessor earlier this month amid claims of non-payment in the South African press.
