Hong Kong Airlines (HX, Hong Kong International) has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for a Foreign Air Carrier Permit as well as route exemption for its planned launch of scheduled and chartered passenger flights to the United States next year.

In its application, the Hong Kong-based carrier said it plans to serve Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands as early as the second quarter of next year. The 4x weekly flights will operate on-board A330-200 aircraft, it said.

Hong Kong Airlines currently operates thirteen A320-200s, nine A330-200s, four A330-300s, and five A330-200Fs on scheduled passenger and cargo flights to forty-one destinations in thirteen countries across mainland China, the CIS, Asia, and Oceania.
