Malindo Air (Kuala Lumpur International) is planning to enter the longhaul market with flights to Saudi Arabia which, pending government approval, could launch later next year.

"We have got the approval to fly to Jeddah International from the Malaysian government and are now working with the General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia to get the landing permit," airline CEO Chandran Rama Muthy told Bernama news.

The Lion Air (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) subsidiary, which currently serves thirty-one destinations across Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Australia, is also planning to expand further into the region with flights to southern China as well as more destinations in Australia planned for next year.

Rama Muthy added that to achieve its ambitious growth plans, ten more aircraft will be acquired to compliment its existing fleet of eleven ATR72-600s, eight B737-800s, and six B737-900(ER)s.
