Harbour Air Seaplanes (YB, Vancouver Coal Harbour) completed its acquisition of local partner Salt Spring Air (Ganges Harbor) on December 1 thus paving the way for the expansion of air service and passenger capacity between Ganges Harbor, Vancouver Coal Harbour and other destinations across British Columbia.

“We are excited to further our already long-standing and very positive working relationship with Harbour Air and guarantee the unique service we have worked so hard to build on Salt Spring Island will continue and grow,” Philip Reece, part owner of Salt Spring Air, said.

All fourteen Salt Spring Air employees, as well as the airline's brand, have also been retained as part of the deal.

Salt Spring Air will continue to offer scheduled flights between Ganges Harbour and Maple Bay, as well as downtown Vancouver and Vancouver International International Airport at the South Terminal. Additional routes will entail scheduled flights between the Gulf Islands, Victoria Inner Harbour, Nanaimo Harbour, South Vancouver, Downtown Vancouver, Comox, Sechelt and Pitt Meadows. Service to Whistler will also be available during tourism season.

Aircraft servicing the route will range from the DHC-2, which has long been the aircraft of choice for Salt Spring Air, to Harbour Air’s larger DHC-2 and turbine DHC-3. Larger Harbour Air aircraft will also accommodate higher demand for service to and from Salt Spring Island.
