Fly540 (FFV, Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta) is planning to commence scheduled passenger flights to the soon-to-be opened Kabunde Airstrip in Homa Bay on the shores of Lake Victoria. The airstrip, which is currently undergoing renovations and upgrades to its runway and terminal, is expected to secure commercial certification from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) later this month.

“We are ready for Homa Bay," Fly 540’s Director for Corporate and Industry Affairs, Nixon Ooko, said. "We will offer competitive rates and we are likely to start with three flights a day and thereafter make it more frequent even daily, depending on the demand.”

Until now, local residents had been forced to use Kisumu airport, some 65km away, when travelling by air. Kabunde's upgrade is expected to make travel not only cheaper, but also more convenient especially during the rainy season when rural roads often become impassable.
