WOW air (Reykjavik Keflavik) chief executive officer Skuli Mogensen says the Icelandic budget carrier is considering using Dublin International as its second transatlantic base. At present, WOW air connects its European and US networks through its Reykjavik Keflavik hub but according to Mogensen, a second hub is now being looked at owing to Keflavik's shortcomings.

“Dublin is a great airport and it’s a great hub in its own right. It’s definitely a viable alternative to London for lots of reasons,” he was quoted by the Irish Times newspaper.

Mogensen also talked about the possibility of establishing an Irish subsidiary but noted the need to secure a local AOC among other factors. WOW air is not the first European transatlantic LCC looking to take advantage of Ireland's low corporate tax rates, labour laws, and beneficial air service agreements. Norwegian (Oslo Gardermoen) famously established its controversial Irish subsidiary, Norwegian Air International (Dublin International), almost two years ago but to date, the unit has yet to secure US traffic rights.

WOW air currently operates three A320-200s and two A321-200s, with three A330-300s due ahead of the launch of its maiden US West Coast flights - Los Angeles International and San Francisco - later on in June.
