AirAsia India (Bengaluru International) will add a pair of A320s to its fleet in the near future AirAsia Group founder and CEO Tony Fernandes has said.

Speaking to the Financial Express on the sidelines of India Aviation 2016, Fernandes said the additional A320 jets would allow the LCC to explore what he termed "new routes in India".

AirIndia Asia currently operates four A320-200s on scheduled passenger flights connecting Bengaluru International, Chandigarh, Delhi International, Goa Dabolim, Jaipur, Kochi International, Pune, Vishakhapatnam, Imphal, and Guwahati. AirAsia India is currently unable to expand internationally owing to India's controversial 5/20 rule which requires local carriers to have been in business for at least five years and to operate at least twenty aircraft before venturing abroad.
