Lufthansa Group CEO Carsten Spohr says IranAir (IR, Tehran Mehrabad) is a potential buyer for some of the German carrier's surplus A340s.

Under the terms of a joint-cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two carriers earlier this month, Lufthansa has pledged to provide the Iranian carrier with technical expertise to help revamp its operations as well as organization.

Lufthansa is scheduled to begin taking delivery of its first A350-900s at the end of the year with each new aircraft to replace an outgoing A340-600. As previously reported, Lufthansa has also considered shifting some of its A340s across to its Eurowings (EW, Düsseldorf) unit for use on longhaul budget flights later this year.
