Air Berlin (1991) (Berlin Tegel) has courted easyJet (London Luton) over possible investment Germany's Bild newspaper has reported.

According to informed sources who spoke to the paper on condition of anonymity, representatives from the German carrier met with easyJet management in Luton earlier this month. Any potential deal could see the UK-based LCC receiving a stake in Air Berlin's lucrative Spanish routes and its Palma de Mallorca shuttle service, they said.

Neither airline has chosen to comment on the claims.

Loss-making Air Berlin counts Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) as its largest shareholder with a 29.12% stake.
