GX Airlines (GX, Nanning) has taken delivery of a maiden Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) twinjet in the form of A320-200 B-8655 (cn 6215). A formal unveiling ceremony was held in Malaysia this past weekend with the aircraft having since been ferried to Nanning, China.

Once all regulatory checks have been completed, the ex-AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) twinjet is expected to make its commercial debut for the Chinese carrier on Thursday, August 25.

Until now, GX Airlines has operated an all-Embraer (EMB, São José dos Campos Professor Urbano Ernesto Stumpf) fleet of ten E190s all of which are leased from parent Tianjin Airlines (GS, Tianjin). It specializes in flights throughout China serving a total of thirty-three destinations although serious studies concerning possible flights to select destinations in Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and Cambodia have been conducted.
