The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has announced Colombo International Airport's main runway, the 3,350metre-long 04/22, will partially close to all traffic over the period January 6, 2017 to April 6, 2017 on account of resurfacing works.

For the duration of the works, flights will not be permitted to use the airfield between 08h30L and 16h30L.

The closure is expected to cost SriLankan Airlines (UL, Colombo International) USD50 million in lost revenue Sri Lanka's Economy Next magazine has reported quoting airline officials. The closure is expected to cut the carrier's overall capacity by 17% over the period.
