National Airlines (N8, Orlando Sanford) has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for permission to expand into the US-China market.

The airline plans to run a scheduled combination service beginning early 2017 to China Zone 3 destinations with its existing fleet of two B757-200 aircraft. Under the US - China Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), National Airlines would be able to serve up to five destinations in China Zone 3 without limitation.

China Zone 3 includes destinations in the following provinces: Anhui, Chongqing, Gansu, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan Island, Heilongjiang, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Inner Mongolia, Jiangxi, Jilin, Liaoning, Ningxia, Qinghai, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan, Tibet, Xinjiang, and Yunnan.

Having cancelled several North American routes earlier this year, National now runs just one scheduled route between Orlando Sanford in the US and St. John's in Canada, which will cease on January 6, 2017.
