Montenegro Airlines (Podgorica) has secured a charter contract with Iranian firm VSP Kish to run weekly flights between Tehran Imam Khomeini and Podgorica this summer season.

In an interview with the Montenegrin carrier's Luxury Inflight magazine, airline Commercial Director Zoran Radunovic said the service could increase to 2x weekly depending on how successfully the Iranian firm marketed the route.

"The charter traffic segment should be significantly improved, with particular focus on the economically more developed and more powerful markets of the German-speaking countries, Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and the CIS" he said.

State-owned Montenegro Airlines operates a fleet of three E195s and two Fokker 100s on scheduled flights to fifteen destinations in Serbia, Italy, Denmark, Germany, Slovenia, France, Russia, Austria, and Switzerland. It has been seeking out additional revenue streams given lingering financial woes.

"The future of the company is necessarily based on the new markets and destinations. For these reasons, the contract on representation of Montenegro Airlines in Iran was signed," Radunovic added.
