Transavia Airlines (HV, Amsterdam Schiphol) has announced it will be closing its Munich base later this winter as it seeks to consolidate its operations in the Dutch market.

The Managing Director of the Air France-KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Group budget carrier, Mattijs ten Brink, said in a statement that despite the warm reception that LCC has gotten in the Bavarian market, its base operations there would end in late October with the advent of the winter season.

"We must continually adapt our business model to market conditions," he said. "We have now decided to change our strategy and focus on growth within our home market. For this reason, and because of carefully evaluated profitability prospects, a base in Munich is no longer part of this strategy."

Transavia will shift the four B737NextGens it currently has in Munich to the Netherlands for use in the Winter2017/18 season. It will, however, continue to serve the southern German city from its Amsterdam Schiphol and Eindhoven bases.

According to the ch-aviation schedules database, Transavia currently connects Munich with twenty-three destinations in Italy, Spain, Morocco, Israel, Sweden, Portugal, Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands. This is the second time Transavia has failed to set-up a base outside its home markets in the Netherlands and France after previously closing down Transavia Denmark (Copenhagen Kastrup) in 2011.
