Eurowings (EW, Düsseldorf) is looking for additional A330 widebody aircraft to bolster its current fleet of seven, the Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa Group, Carsten Spohr, has said.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Spohr said the added capacity would allow the longhaul budget carrier to better compete with the likes of Norwegian (Oslo Gardermoen) and IAG International Airlines Group which recently unveiled ist own longhaul LCC, LEVEL (Barcelona El Prat).

Eurowings' widebody fleet currently consists of six A330-200s and one B767-300(ER) (leased from TUI fly (Germany)). They are used on flights from Eurowings' Cologne/Bonn hub to leisure destinations in North America, the Caribbean, East and Southern Africa, the Middle East, the Indian Ocean, and the Far East.

Insofar as potential future hubs, Eurowings considers that Berlin Tegel, Hamburg Helmut Schmidt and Düsseldorf would make “interesting” expansions, Spohr added.
