Alaska Airlines (AS, Seattle Tacoma International) President and Chief Operating Officer, Ben Minicucci, has confirmed the carrier plans to keep the two Dallas Love Field gates it inherited from Virgin America (San Francisco) following its takeover late last year.

Though Virgin America and Alaska Airlines were not required to divest any assets, as a condition of US Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance they did agree to seek DOJ approval before selling, leasing, or trading the slots and gates at Dallas Love Field, New York La Guardia, or Washington National that Virgin America obtained from the American Airlines/US Airways antitrust merger settlement.

“We’re keeping both for sure," he told Bloomberg news. "We love Love Field.”

Virgin America currently uses its two Love Field gates to serve Las Vegas Harry Reid, Los Angeles International, New York La Guardia, San Francisco, and Washington National. For its part, Alaska Airlines also serves the Dallas metropolitan area albeit through Dallas/Fort Worth, located just 18 kilometres from Love Field. Flights are offered to Portland International and Seattle Tacoma International.
