Blue Air (Romania) (BLA, Bucharest Henri Coanda) has signed longterm lease agreements with Air Lease Corporation for six new B737-8s and six used B737-800s. The B737-800 aircraft, which ALC acquired from Turkey's Pegasus Airlines, began delivering in May 2017 and will continue through to year-end.

The new B737 MAX 8 aircraft, which are scheduled for delivery between mid-2019 and the first quarter of 2021, are sourced from ALC’s Boeing (BOE, Washington National) order book. In tandem to this, Blue Air has also agreed to purchase six more B737 MAXs from Boeing. The order was previously attributed to an unidentified customer.

“This new lease agreement is a great opportunity to develop and grow our relations with Air Lease Corporation as a strategic partner sustaining our ambitious development plans," Gheorghe Racaru, Chief Executive Officer of Blue Air, said. "Adopting the brand new B737 MAX family is an important milestone for Blue Air and the Romania aviation sector, allowing us to further improve our operating efficiencies."

The Romanian LCC currently operates a fleet of thirty B737 jets including three B737-300s, nine B737-400s, six B737-500s, one B737-700, and eleven B737-800s.
