Korean Air (KE, Seoul Incheon) will acquire 44% in Czech national carrier CSA Czech Airlines (OK, Prague Václav Havel) with a final contract expected to be signed on April 9 following approval of the transaction by the Czech government. Korean will pay approximately 2.64 million EUR for the stake in its Skyteam partner and will guarantee to retain CSA's employment levels and not to resell its stake for five years. It plans to use Prague as one of its key European gateways going forward. Korean is serving Prague four times weekly from Incheon with B747-400s while CSA will launch a twice weekly A330-300 service this summer on the route. In an unrelated agreement, the Czech government has agreed with CSA competitor Travel Service Airlines (Prague Václav Havel) to stop charter flights on behalf of tour operators by fully owned CSA subsidiary Holidays Czech Airlines (Prague Václav Havel). Travel Service will in turn withdraw a lawsuit against the government and CSA regarding a government loan Travel Service considers as illegal state aid. Holidays Czech Airlines will instead wet-lease its aircraft to other carriers. It currently already operates three of its four A320-200 for nasair (Saudi Arabia) (Riyadh) and CSA.
