Utility Aviation (Fort Collins/Loveland) has applied to US Department of Transportation (DOT) for authority to conduct scheduled passenger operations as a commuter air carrier.

In its application, the Colorado-based helicopter operator says it intends to deploy twelve Eurocopter AS355s on regular flights to various FAA-approved helipads in New York City as well as: Kearny, NJ; Montauk; East Hampton Bistrians Heliport, New York JFK; New York Newark; New York La Guardia; Teterboro; White Plains; and Temple, TX. Parent firm Brunner Aerospace says the move is part of its plan to transform Utility into a major player in the New York and the North East Corridor ad-hoc helicopter charter market.

Utility Aviation Incorporated is a subsidiary of Brunner Aerospace, LLC (Brunner Aero), having been majority-acquired by Brunner Aero in July 2015 from its founder, Bill Goodro, who retained a 20% ownership interest. Brunner Aero acquired Utility Aviation Inc., not only to compete in the commuter helicopter services market, but also because of what it termed its "exceptional past performance" in the gas and oil industry, as well as its strategic location in the Western United States.
