Afriqiyah Airways (8U, Tripoli Mitiga) has wet-leased a pair of A320-200s 4L-AJD (msn 879) and 4L-AJF (msn 1422) from UAE based ACMI specialist Aerovista for use on flights to Turkey and Jordan and possibly, Europe. The aircraft will operate under the Air Operators Certificate (AOC) of Aerovista’s Georgian subsidiary Vista Georgia (Tbilisi). Air Libya (7I, Tripoli Mitiga) signed a similar deal with Aerovista in the middle of last month for the use of a B737-300 and a B737-500 for both scheduled and charter flights.

The Libyan carrier, along with Libya's aviation industry as a whole, has struggled to return to normalcy following the attack on Tripoli International airport by Islamist rebels in June which damaged several of its and Libyan Airlines's fleet of A319-100s, A320-200s, and A330-200s.

Meanwhile, start-up Libyan Wings (YL, Tripoli Mitiga) is planning to commence scheduled operations between Malta International and Tripoli Mitiga following the delivery of two ex-Philippine Airlines (PR, Manila Ninoy Aquino International) A319-100s to Malta last month. The aircraft are expected to remain at Luqa International Airport while final clearances and approvals to commence operations out of Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport are obtained.

Libyan Wings initially intends to serve a number of destinations in the Middle East and North Africa, with plans to expand into Europe as well as other markets in the Arabian Gulf when additional aircraft are inducted into the fleet.
